Fight Director Training Workshop – Student Participants

MELBOURNE

Thursday 30th April and Friday 1st May 2026

Work alongside emerging fight directors and teachers in a low-pressure workshop — guided by leading Australian Fight and Movement Director, Lyndall Grant.

A select group of participants will train in industry-ready techniques across a two-day intensive, offered at a significantly reduced rate.

What Is it?

This exciting two-day workshop is ideal for actors who want to build essential industry skills, in a relaxed and collaborative environment.

Stage and screen combat training is a core part of an actor’s toolkit, allowing for clear, confident storytelling in physically heightened scenes. These skills take time to embody — and this workshop creates the space to do exactly that. Actors and emerging fight directors will work side-by-side, with actors developing their physical practice while fight directors refine their craft.

What to expect.

Across the two days, you’ll work with a range of genres, weapon systems and movement styles. Sessions include focused technique work, introductions to new weapons, and practical explorations of how fight choreography is developed in rehearsal.

This makes the workshop ideal for actors who want preparation for professional work, without the pressure.

You’ll be working with emerging fight directors already operating in the industry, supported by assistants at earlier stages of their training. The program is overseen by Lyndall Grant, who will also contribute select workshop sessions across the two days.

What you’ll get out of it.

You will:

  • expand your performance range
  • gain practical industry insight
  • build agency in the room
  • broaden your movement choices
  • learn essential safety practices
  • embody physical story-telling in heightened scenes

And you will connect with the performers and fight directors who will be shaping our future industry.
