Northern Onslaught Stage Combat Workshop, U.K.

Preston, Lancashire: 20th and 21st November 2021

Time to get back into some high-intensity Stage Combat Training, with our SPECIAL POST-RESTRICTION DISCOUNT

WHAT IS IT?

A full weekend of training in Stage and Screen Combat. We will be hitting it hard, learning what is needed to safely perform realistic violence for across recorded and live performance.

Fight scenes are some of the most exciting and dramatic moments in theatre, film and mocap. However, they can also be genuinely stressful (for everyone) if you do not have the training to keep yourself and others safe while committing to your performance. This weekender course will throw you right into industry-level stage combat training, with BADC teacher and Captivate’s own UK fight director Andrew Young and actor Amy Floyd. Through two days of action, you will explore stage combat illusions, physical technique and acting craft; and expand your ability to safely throw yourself into fight scenes as you kick, punch, and scratch your way through Unarmed, Single Sword and Knife combat.

Day One will look at a range of armed and unarmed techniques in how to create the illusion of violence, and explore how you can create realistic reactions that help tell a story and keep audiences on the edge of their seats.  On Day Two you will apply these skills while learning a choreographed fight, culminating in a filmed performance of your scene.

Successfully completing the weekend will give you skills, knowledge and confidence to handle yourself safely in professional stage combat scenes; and importantly to recognise when something is unsafe and what you can do about it. The training will give you a bedrock to launch into further practice, and the acting crafts you study can be used across the board in performance. Above all you will have widened your performance range, expanded your network of colleagues, opened up further avenues of work, and have had a full weekend playing with action amongst a group of like-minded performing artists. That is, you are going to have some fun.
